Survival
As the first installment in author Rebecca Sherwin's Twisted series, Survival certainly lives up to its name.
Skye Jones and her twin brother Oliver have an awful home life and it's just a matter of time before they can save enough money to get away. When tragedy hits and throws a kink in those plans, Skye turns to "Cut Throat" Curtis for solace.
The storyline is packed with high energy, complete with cage fighting. It's a story about losing everything, not once, but repeatedly. It leaves the reader wondering how much more Skye can take.
Full of passion and angst combined with plenty of smoking hot action, the first installment goes down to the wire and drops a bomb that can only occur when soulmates become united.
This is not a neat and tidy story full of hugs and kisses. It's about two people who are separated, trying to make their way as two halves in a world made up of wholes.
Revival
Told from the perspective of "Cut Throat" Curtis, the second installment of Rebecca Sherwin's Twisted series provides a more detailed look at some of the events highlighted in the first story.
Revival delves deeply into Curtis' past, and there's plenty of darkness to go along with this installment. Not only is his girlfriend truly wicked, but his sense of regret underscores his decisions. Trapped in a world of deceit, it's only a matter of time before Curtis and Skye once again cross paths.
All of the elements are present to make this story connect smoothly with the first one, although there was some overlap given that some of the same scenes were played out from a different perspective.
While I found the first part to be better than the second, the cliffhanger ending guaranteed a desire to know what happens next.
Thrive
As family secrets are brought to life, the third installment of the Twisted series, Thrive, is all about facing demons.
Evil truly comes to the forefront, with plenty of drama and angst. The author skillfully links the pieces together, providing the reader with a solid storyline.
In the midst of the turmoil and manipulation, Skye and Curtis focus on clearing out the cobwebs. Both characters remain solid throughout the series. Skye's sense of vulnerability serves well in contrast to Curtis and his determination.
It's a series that needs to be read in sequence in order to fully understand the characters and the plot.
The author teases of another installment on the horizon. Perhaps there will be a greater focus on the fighting aspect. Regardless, I found this to be a series that very much lived up to its name.
