If there is one word to describe Plaything Volume One by Jason Luke and Jade West, it would have to be "intense." From the prologue, a dark tone discolors what should have been a safe, sane and consensual BDSM relationship. Instead, with words like "brute" and "gasped for breath," the stage is set for something that is far from warm and fuzzy.
This novella introduces the story of Amy, a woman who has been kidnapped and sold. The stumbling block is she is expected to be submissive, but her refusal to submit forces her captors to call in Robert, the black sheep of the family. What ensues is a story of domination and mind games. I've read plenty of dark erotica, but these authors certainly know how to deliver a storyline without pulling any punches.
As the novella unfolds, it is clear that there is more to the story than just exploiting this poor woman for sadistic purposes. Robert is far from his father, which gives Amy an incentive to accept her fate. I'm not quite sure at this point whether I actually like Robert, but I have my fingers crossed that somehow this story will end well.
Complete with a nice tidy cliffhanger, the next installment is slated to deliver more high impact erotica as the two characters face off. Will Amy finally embrace submission only to be sent to her new owner? Or will Robert make her more than just a plaything?
