Jill's Reviews of Chasing Ever After & Fighting Ever After by Stephanie Hoffman McManus

SYNOPSIS

Andrew Reid had his whole life mapped out. Serve his country for four years and then return home to marry his high school sweetheart.

Sadie Pierce had everything her heart desired. Sacrificing her life of privilege to be with Clayton West was an easy choice.

This is the story of two people who thought they had it all. This is the story of two people forced to pick up the pieces when they lose it all.

When Drew's dream died, so did the boy that he was, and Ace was born. Now the bass player for the hottest band on the rise, he's on his way to having it all again. The one thing he wants most is the pretty red head whose life collided with his when near tragedy struck someone close to both of them.

Sadie won't make it easy on Ace. Not when she has already suffered so much heartache, but Ace isn't afraid to go after what he wants, even if it means chasing after her into the darkness to bring her out. The events of Finding Ever After brought them together, but can they make their own ever after?

REVIEW

Chasing Ever After - book 2

5 stars for the second book in the Ever After series which featured two people that danced around their intense chemistry all through book one and left us wanting to know what was really going on behind closed doors when they got together. While technically you could read this book without having read book one first but you would miss so much of the family dynamics of the "crew" for lack of a better term and all the sexual tension leading up to Ace and Sadie finally making their plays for one another. So in other words I highly recommend reading book one Finding Ever After first then you can dive right in to this perfect addition to the series.

Sadie Pierce is Jax's best friend and though she has be living a quiet, almost forlorn life after being disowned by her parents for choosing the man she was going to marry instead of them before tragedy changed the course of her life. She was in love with a good man - a marine that her parents didn't care for, but she chose him over a life of privilege and they had plans to be married before he was killed during active duty in Iraq shattering her heart and dreams. Sadie is persuaded to move to Boston and start over with Jax and all her new friends by her side. For this woman to be part of all the drama was entertaining/comical/frightening/sad and some old wounds were opened up and insecurities that she hoped were buried came rushing back to threaten her budding relationship with Ace.

Andrew Reid is better known as Ace after a long, successful run in the military plays bass in the band and has been the typical "man whore" enjoying groupies and fan-girls to the extreme and living up the rock star lifestyle every chance he gets. All of that changes the day he meets Sadie and realizes she is so much more than a one night stand and his relentless pursuit of her begins. The chase lasts two freaking years before she finally gives Ace a chance and envisions what they could be like together if she would just give them a chance. Ace has demons of his own to battle especially after the first time he fell in love his then fiance left him while he was overseas stating she was tired of waiting and moved on to the next poor sap.

While these two certainly have their ups and downs they finally figure out what is important in the end. We also get Jax and Ky's wedding and more members of the band/crew falling ...hard. Can't wait for the next installment which is Fighting Ever After up next :)

SYNOPSIS

Senator's son. Ivy league dropout. Lead singer for Boston's hottest band on the rise. Bad boy most likely to break a good girl's heart. Kyden McCabe is all of those things and so much more.

His trust; you can't have it. His heart; he'll never let you touch it. He's not interested in love. He deals in pleasure only. That's all he wants and all he offers. When Jaxyn stumbles into his life like a princess straight from some bullshit fairytale, she will be no exception . . .

You've already heard the story from Jaxyn's point of view, now take a peek inside Ky's head and find out just what it is that makes him so hard to like, but so easy to love.

This is a retelling of Finding Ever After from Ky's point of view. It can be read before or after Chasing Ever After (Ace and Sadie) but should be read after Finding Ever After.

REVIEW

Fighting Ever After - book 3

4 stars for Kyden's POV in the retelling of Finding Ever After. I have never really been a fan of a retelling in either the male or female POV but this book was different than others along the same trope. Where most of the time you get an almost verbatim rehashing of details we got to learn a lot of new information regarding Kyland's life.

The childhood that was beyond bad in book one was in actuality even worse than Ky ever lead on. Then to understand how he behaves in relationships (or lack there of) because of how he was burned when he was younger makes you realize why he had his strict set of rules. Ky was living it up and enjoying his life until this beautiful girl literally landed in his lap. Jaxsyn changed Ky on a fundamental level by making him want to be a better man someone more deserving of his princess. So his rule book went out the window along with his philosophy on relationships.

Loved the relationship and dynamics through Ky's storytelling. Can't wait to read all about whoever is up next :)
