This is War, Baby by K. Webster
Publication Date: February 29, 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Dark Romance

This is War Baby FRONT ONLY

My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn. His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world. In my WAR, though, I found peace. I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life …all inside his head. But then my captor came back for me. Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected. So we thought. Even though my WAR was raging, my captor would fight to the death. The good guys always win, right? Not always. All’s fair in love and WAR, right? Not this time.

Warning: This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.

REVIEW

This is War, Baby is book one in the War & Peace series by K. Webster and is probably one of the best books I have read this year. This book is a very dark, erotic romance chock full of triggers BUT it is also one heck of a love story too. To know that in this day and age things like human trafficking occur still boggles my mind.

Baylee Winston is a senior in high school a few months away from her eighteenth birthday and madly in love with her boyfriend - Brandon when her entire life comes crashing down around her. While in the middle of a compromising situation with her boyfriend a masked man breaks into Baylee's house, assaults Brandon and literally snatches her out of her bed. Baylee wakes up in a pitch black cellar with no recollection of how she got there and has no idea how much time has passed since she was abducted but the one thing she does know is that her father's best friend and their next door neighbor - Gabe is the one who took her.

Gabe has lived next door to them for ten years and while they used to be close he distanced himself from her seemingly overnight. Baylee won't deny the fact she was slightly attracted to the forty-something year-old man but she is only seventeen so she ignored her little crush and went about her everyday life. Now Gabe is telling her he is going to do things to her that she has never done so she will be "trained" for the man who will buy her from Gabe. At the auction Baylee is sold to the highest bidder and learns that she is going to WAR...

Warren McPherson is a broken man trapped by the demons in his head from his own nightmare that transpired about ten years ago, but prior to that time he was a normal eighteen year old. War purchased Baylee as a companion to combat the loneliness from his extreme germophobia and OCD among other issues. He is the exact opposite of her previous -owner - if you will and treats her with respect and kindness. War and Bay form a friendship that blossoms into a beautiful romance where in they both help to heal the other until trouble comes knocking...

K. Webster is probably one of the most underrated authors out there and has firmly planted herself in the heavy hitters category with this gem. I for one am so glad I waited a bit to read this since there is only a few weeks left until book two releases. I have waved the white flag, KW and you definitely have yourself a more than five star winner here :)
