The First Taste by Jessica Hawkins
Series: Slip of the Tongue #2
Release Date: August 4th, 2016
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Synopsis:
Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. To the female population’s dismay, he’s unapologetically single. When Bell’s mother walked out on them years ago, he vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again. Amelia Van Ecken isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn. Two things are obvious in an instant: they want each other, and they’re from different worlds. It’s the perfect formula for an off-the-charts one-night stand. After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract. The First Taste, a standalone spin-off of the Slip of the Tongue.Add to Goodreads

REVIEW
The First Taste is the second book in the series but it is a spin-off that completely stands alone from the author's first book - Slip Of The Tongue. This book is very different from the author's first one which I read and loved, but I can say I honestly enjoyed this one more. Single dad to a six-year-old little girl meets his polar opposite in a soon-to-be divorced, fashion world executive that doesn't have time for anymore drama.
Amelia Van Ecken is in the midst of a divorce from a man that ultimately screwed her over. While she is for the most part a well put together, beautiful and sophisticated woman her recent experiences with her soon-to-be ex-husband have left her bitter and jaded. The very last thing in the world Amelia needs is to get into a new relationship but a hook-up would be just fine.
Andrew Beckwith owns his own business building custom cars and spends all the rest of his time being a single dad to his six-year-old daughter. While in his younger years he would use his good looks to model and party through the streets of New York, he prefers to stay out of the city as much as possible now. While his daughter is his entire world he occasionally takes a time-out for a quick hook-up but nothing permanent is in the cards for him while his daughter is still so young.
Wow this book was everything I was hoping for with angst, drama and smoking hot romance. Beautifully written characters with real flaws/fears that you were rooting for to make it to their HEA. Can't wait to read what happens next :)
