William Jacobs was chosen—adopted at a young age and thrust into a lifestyle he knew nothing about. Emma Nichols was the girl next door . . . his atlas in the turbulent life he had to navigate.

In their small town, beliefs vary and hatred can take the forefront.

She sees things as they are: right and wrong—black or white. He looks at all abstracts of life trying to find the easiest path.

Their lives are connected in every facet. Family, school, love . . . they don’t know where one begins and the other ends, and it’s just the way they like it. Tragedy, hatred, loss, and distance threaten them, but those things won’t tear them apart.

One night, something unforgivable happens. They find themselves on the same side fighting opposite battles. She can’t erase the pain, and he can’t right his wrongs, but he’ll die trying to avenge the act of violence and make her see the truth.

AMIE'S 5 STAR REVIEW
OK so I had to sleep on it and think about it and let it simmer !! LAL is a very emotional writer and you always get the full story. This is why regardless of what she writes I can always feel a connection to something - the story line , a certain event , a character etc etc. Brise was a very angsty and torturous read for me , I do enjoy that but at the same time I make myself sick with worry and what ifs. Now here we have Luke and Phoebe's daughter Emma , her childhood story and first love is almost exact to her parents !! So exciting yet I was horrified to be thrown into the angst and despair !! There were times I wanted to give up on Emma and also times I wanted to fly by so we could see where things went - of course then when time did fly by I was mad and wanted every detail and minute back !! No doubt the ending is beautiful yet it is a LONG ride and not an easy ride at all. I cannot imagine the emotion and strength it took to write this story - WOW - some of the real life events were very touching and very hard to read. Hugs to LAL and anyone ever touched or affected by any of these similar issues.

Emma and Will have been best friends and in love since they were kids. Of course for years they didn't act on it. Their parents are best friends , they are neighbors and similar to Emma's parents - they are each others first loves. It is a sweet beginning and it makes their bond even stronger than some of the greats !! The story starts in the here and now and then we are left hanging on to the WHAT IS HAPPENING !! We then go back and get their full story and all the hurdles and joys that they have celebrated together and alone to get to that point. Will has a special story when it comes to his parents and his upbringing yet some of his teammates have problems with his life and for years torment him. Emma hates this yet Will deals with it for his own reasons. Of course this is an underlying problem throughout all their joys and it honestly had me on the edge of my seat , I knew something was going to go down but what and when ?? This one night sets the wheels in motion for years of regret and hurt , very similar to Emma's parents years apart. Between Emma's goody goody behavior at times and her Nana's issues I did get annoyed - I felt she had this desire to be in charge of everyones choices - things were all about her - yet at the same time she had so much love to give. Although it may have taken too long and wasted time could have been avoided with simple words I can't stay mad. Emma accepts her mistakes , apologizes for them and puts in work to right the wrongs. It was funny to see Luke as the overprotective dad , and I was happy that he and Phoebe had had so many years of happiness.

Leigh Ann Lunsford is a stay at home mom turned author. She writes Romance/New Adult and loves her happily ever after in all books and movies. She lives with her husband, son, and four dogs in Fleming Island, Florida. When she isn’t writing or reading you can find her stuck in front of really bad reality shows or watching Sons of Anarchy. Leigh Ann has a filthy mouth and a huge amount of sarcasm that knows no end. She hopes to give the voices in her head an outlet with many more novels to come.
