Sheri's Review of Nights In The Fast Lane by Grace Risata

 Dane and Izzy.
 Complete opposites.

As the New Year begins, they find themselves facing very different circumstances.
Dane is a street racer stuck with a blown engine, no money, and no options after he gets fired for saving a damsel in distress.
Izzy can’t believe she was just rescued by the same handsome stranger she walks past, and lusts after, on a daily basis.
With a massive blizzard about to bury the town, she ends up taking him in for the night.
Sparks fly when she brings out his playful side, and he shows her a passion she’s never known before.
As they slowly begin to trust each other, walls come down and tragic pasts emerge.  Dane is haunted by the family he never had, while Izzy will stop at nothing to deny her birthright.
When Dane receives an offer he can’t refuse, will one bad decision cost him everything?
Or will fate intervene and send these two down the path they were destined for?

This is a full length, stand-alone novel with no cliffhangers.  Please be advised that you will find strong language, attractive men with tattoos, a dog with a cat name, steamy bedroom scenes including one involving Doritos, plenty of character backstory,  and a very healthy dose of humor.

SHERI'S REVIEW

When your world is just plain ordinary and nothing spectacular seems to happen to you, being called a “Negative Nancy” isn’t so bad. Is it? Izzy didn’t think so but thanks to a New Year Resolution she is determined to turn herself into “Positive Polly”.  However when one has really no family (only two bff’s), a co-worker from Hell and the only man in your life is a dog, how does society expect her act. Being positive and always looking on the bright side is hard to do. But when Izzy comes in contact with a “Brick Wall”, all negative ideas fly from her head and are replaced with VERY positive thoughts. Now only if she could her “Brick Wall” to take notice she would be in heaven. Little did she know, their first encounter would turn her world upside down?

After damaging his car in an illegal street race in Chicago, Dane has no other choice than to take up a job with the Chicago Mob. How else is he supposed to get enough money to fix his car? But when his first job turns out to a bloody mess, Dane is forced to flee Chicago. But when his contact in Oak Valley doesn’t pan out like expected, Dane finds himself scrambling for somewhere else to go. Luck would soon be on his side when he lands a construction job that pays cash daily and he can afford a motel room. But just when things are looking good, he notices a fellow co-worker harassing the pretty girl who has previously caught his eye, Dane soon finds himself in a whole new mess. By stepping in a helping out, he is now without a job.

Was this some kind of dream? Did the man she called “Brick Wall” save her from that nasty man? Did he just get fired for helping her? What is she to do?  How can one be positive when things like this happen to someone who just wanted to do the right thing? Izzy finds herself in a world wind when “Brick Wall” strikes a deal with her, how can she turn him down?

Since now being unemployed, Dane won’t be able to stay at the motel. And with only the money he had on him the night he fled Chicago, he now finds himself asking Izzy for a place to stay for the night. However when one night another, Dane becomes finds himself enamored with the plain girl. Something about her just drives him crazy. A weird vibe lingered around the house until one night, he acts on his desires and sparks fly. Both Izzy and Dane are made for each other. Izzy shows Dane that there are still good people in life and not everything has to be done in “The Fast Lane”. While Dane awakens something inside of Izzy that she never thought existed.

But just like any other couple who are starting out there are many unanswered questions. But when secrets are held and skeletons come out of the closet, can these two rise past the issues and survive? Or will one get spooked and run back to their old life and habits?

Let me start off saying I signed up to read and review this ARC because I was trying to nurse a massive “Book Hangover”. The synopsis seemed sweet and I thought I could easily breeze through, write a decent review and be done with it. BOY, was I wrong!!!!!Yes, the cover would have been a tad bit better. A hot, half naked man would totally work for me, but I guess you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. The story had me hooked from the first chapter. At times I found myself laughing out loud and then blushing a few pages later. The witty banter between Izzy and her friends was hilarious. Their constant support of one another was very refreshing. Also the constant dialogue between Izzy and Dane reminded me of the typical Rom-Com movies, but it worked so well with the story line that I didn’t mind a bit. Now the bedroom scenes are not only hot but the way Dane opens Izzy up to a whole new world of experiences just does the trick. Who knew being called “My little Doritos” could be sexy?

The supporting character do just what they are suppose to do....."Support". Izzy's two friends help range in her negative side and also any craziness that she may show. But Dane's friends aren't two far behind with their craziness and drama. Sometimes mingling with Izzy's friends can get these boys in trouble.

This story does have a HEA and can be read as a stand alone, however it does open up for future stories from this crazy group. I reached out to the Author via Facebook in regards to this series and was told that she did plan to write more about the Oak Valley group. I was pleasantly pleased with knowing this and also can't wait to see where the series goes. This is my first time reading anything by the author and enjoyed the book so much that I have actually re-read it 2 times. Okay so I might have read a few certain parts 3 or 4 times.

Fantastic book and job well done!!!
