Amie's Review of Whiskey & You by HJ Bellus

WHISKEY & YOU by HJ Bellus is LIVE!

Sometimes it’s the hero who ends up needing a lifeline…

Jack Jarvis York is a ruthless and vindictive oil tycoon who knows no boundaries when he’s been double-crossed. Debtors beware. He’ll slit your throat for a nickel. And make no mistake, he will collect.

You never screw with a man’s pride, money, or oil. It’s Texas Law. Unwritten, yet gospel. They don’t call him the king of Texas for nothing.

When a debtor can’t come up with his money, JJ takes his wife as collateral...

What starts out as a trade-off between bitter men turns into an emotional collision of desire and forbidden love so dangerous, it threatens to destroy even the strongest of empires.

No amount of money will ever rebuild everything that’s been shattered. Jack is left standing in the middle of his own chaos.

Greed and power are the least of his worries now. Death is knocking on his front door, wanting to collect.

The woman he’s given his heart to just might become his collateral this time around. Past sins may trump everything...

AMIE'S 3.5-4 STAR REVIEW

I would say a 3.5-4 star read for me. I enjoyed the storyline and the flow of the story but I wasn't sure that I was feeling the ease of Navy's connection with JJ. Then again she is wounded beyond belief so who knows maybe that is how it would happen in reality - then again this is a story not reality !!!!

So the opening scene was actually pretty hot for me !! I mean you have to get to know the characters and if this was how JJ behaved then give us that. Nothing better than an MFF opening scene to wake you up and get you moving !! JJ came from nothing but now thanks to the help of an amazing step dad he has become a very wealthy man. I feel this is the reason JJ becomes a man that needs to take in and save others. This is how Whitley became such a major part of his life. At this point in time she is off to live her dream and Jj is deeply saddened for her to not be around anymore. Their relationship was hard to understand so you know it will come back to cause issues soon enough. During a business meeting JJ is face to face with Jordan. Not a fan of this man and certainly not a fan of the way he treats his wife. So much so that it becomes his mission to ruin him. When we meet Navy you can't help but feel for her. She lives a horrible sheltered life with a nasty man. As we get to the bottom of her story it is heartbreaking and could have triggers for some. JJ plays savior once again yet this time it is different. not only does he know have a madman on his tail BUT he also has different feelings towards Navy that he didn't expect. When you think navy's story couldn't get any worse it does. This story is full of suspense and determination. The characters had their flaws but I was happy to see them come out on top.

MEET THE AUTHOR:
HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shotgunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
