AMIE'S 5 STAR REVIEW
When Killian was young he was diagnosed with a photographic memory. He had issues in school and once they pinned those down they tried so many things to attempt to make it better. Most made it worse. His art saved him yet also kept him trapped in the torture of the one night he will never forget. As an 8 year old boy , scared at the mercy of others, told to never speak of what he witnessed Killian never uttered a word to anyone until he formed a bond with a girl that lived next door. Killian spent years going between homes and doctors to try to get him to talk of that night , to help solve the puzzle . So many gave up on him but not his young Aunt Elise. For 3 years she nurtured him as much as she could and accepted his silence. He spoke through written words and he focussed on art. During his time with Elise he met the young girl next door, he was 11 and Rylee was 10 and although he saw himself as an outcast and refused to speak she saw him as a safe place and she enjoyed his silence. They had such a connection and such a sweet chemistry. They grew together and learned experiences with each other that were not typical or easy due to the lack of communication. Rylee gave him the comfort and safety he craved and in turn he gave her his words. Rylee's parents were loving yet protective and something about Killian always struck them as odd. They worried for her safety with him yet within certain limits allowed their relationship to grow. It was a sweet love story of two young kids/teens and then once again , one night had it all crashing down. The time moved pretty quickly during their past but I was horrified when I turned the page and saw that 5 years later line !!
Now after 5 years Rylee is an adult , on her own after graduating college and contemplating the choice of going back home or trying to see where this new relationship , the only relationship since Killian , will go. Rylee suffered the loss of Killian for years and now as she attempts to finally move on fate will knock her on her butt and the past will come back with a vengeance.
Where was Killian all these years and can he win back the love of his life ?? There is no denying the love and emotion between these two BUT once Rylee finally knows the truth about the things haunting Killian will she be able to accept him for who he really is despite the love she always had for him ?? With a few MAJOR twists and turns this story was an emotional rollercoaster. I hated the separation and hated Killian's pain BUT in the end it made for a great story and I was blown away and unable to put the book down.
Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.
She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.
