Dear Diary,

Here I am again, bawling my eyes out, heartbroken, and feeling so numb that I’m scaring myself. I feel like I’m being punished for wanting to love someone. Why is love such a tormenting thing for me? I wish someone could take the feeling of love away from me so I wouldn’t keep getting hurt. My heart feels like someone put their hand on my chest and dug their nails into my heart until it was a second away from stopping. 

When will it stop? The pain of rejection—that’s what this has to be. Once I fall for someone and make it clear they’re all I want, they slap me in my face and tell me with their actions that they don’t love me in the same way, whether they mean to or not. It took me a while to let him back in after the last time and now it’s happening all over again and I can’t face this hurtful truth. I never thought he’d put me through this again and now that I’m older and really understand what true love means, I didn’t think I’d be here all alone again. 

This was complete bull and the stupid note he left didn’t make things any better. How could he do this to me? And leave me a note so vague I don’t even know why he’s really leaving? Who would try to hurt his family? 

I tried so hard not to fall for him again and what does he do? He takes my heart, stomps on it, and buries it in the dirt. 

I can’t deal with this right now. Screw you Jonathan Gates. Even if it takes me years, I will get over you, and you better not try and weasel your way back into my life.

Good-bye to this chapter of my life. It’s time to grow up and enjoy the next few years.

The Dueling Dragons MC serves as the focal point for author Angie Sakai in Faith's Temptation.

Interestingly enough, the story takes place in my former stomping grounds of western Kentucky. That's an awesome thing to get the nostalgia pumping, but I'm wondering if the author realized that the real Calvert City is not exactly an MC kind of town.

Ryder is the president-elect of the club, but is stuck behind the wheel of a big rig until he fulfills commitments broken by his father. He's a typical biker, complete with a dominant personality and a foul mouth.

Faith is looking for a new beginning and nursing a broken heart. She's drawn to Ryder, but she's not about to let feelings start complicating her already topsy turvy world. If only her heart would catch up with her mind, Faith has a chance for a new beginning.

My impression is that another round of editing would have helped make a more cohesive story. While Layla conveys natural sisterly concern about the couple, there's not a lot of consistency in her behavior. As a supporting character, she plays an important role, as does Ryder's friend Ziggy.

The heat level is fairly high, but there's more of an emphasis on Ryder's softer side with Faith instead of classic biker behavior. Regardless, they both seem fairly adventurous with any surface worth exploring.

The basic foundation is in place to create a solid MC series. The trucking aspect adds a fresh dimension, but it needs a bit more development.  Unfortunately, there's an unexpected cliffhanger that leaves readers with plenty of questions.

There's a lot going on behind the scenes as the last pages are read, but there is no clear indication of whether Faith will completely give in to temptation in the wake of Ryder's aggressive efforts.

Angie, a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, can usually be found snuggled up on her couch with her husband and furbabies watching Netflix or screaming herself hoarse at a rock concert. She is an avid reader and her favorite genre at the moment is Erotica. She has been writing for years as a way to cope with life and finally realized her dream of publishing her novels. She loves a great story with tough as nails characters who have a heart. The grittier, the better.

 I’m wearing a huge smile as I get dropped off at my building and walk through the door, talking to Ariela on the phone. Having her come back into my life after so many years has been both excruciating and exhilarating. But this weekend changed things. We faced our past together and, in one week, we’re going to decide if we want to pursue a future together. As much as I want to be with her, honestly, I’m a little torn about it. Part of me wants nothing more than to pretend we never broke up. But the reality is that she’s married. And even though she filed for a divorce, I wonder if it’s too much too soon. In a very short time—on a whim—she came to California, was reunited with me, slept with me, filed for a divorce, got a new job, and went back to Eastbrooke. I mean, how many more life changes can she throw at herself all at once? I loved her with everything I was in high school, and I was devastated when she left with nothing more than a goodbye. And since she’s come back, she’s wreaked more havoc in my life. Soon, I’ll have to decide if I want to risk another relationship with her. I haven’t been with anyone since we broke up.” “We didn’t break up. You went to a few events with me. We fucked. And I used a condom every single time.” She shrugs. “I don’t know what to tell you. They aren’t one hundred percent effective. I’m sorry, Riley. I certainly didn’t plan on getting pregnant.” “Aren’t you on the pill?” “No, it made me fat.” I shake my head. I can’t fucking believe this. But I’m not stupid either. I go into my guest bathroom, grab a pregnancy test out of the cabinet, and then hand it to her. “Take this.” “Why do you have that?” “Honey, you’re not the first girl to tell me she’s pregnant.” I open it up and hand it to her. “Go pee on it, bring it out, and we’ll watch. See what happens.” She hesitates, just as they all do. “Um, I don’t know if it will work yet. I’m barely pregnant.” “So you didn’t do a test?” “Yes, I did a test, Riley. God, you’re being such an ass.” She’s right. I am. “I’m sorry. Please, for me, go take the test.” “I will, I’m just saying that they aren’t all as accurate as the one I took.” She lets out a dramatic sigh and goes into the bathroom, not bothering to shut the door. When she sees me watching her pee, she gives me a sexy smile. I turn around. Fuck. Of course, that’s what got me into this mess. Please, please, don’t let her be pregnant. I hear the toilet flush and turn around. “Here’s the stick, Riley. I’m going to sit down. Pregnancy is exhausting.” She flops down on my couch while I stare at the stick, willing the line not to change. But it does.

JILL'S 5 STAR REVIEW

So my usual review can't be done for this book without giving away spoilers left and right, but what can be said is that this being my first T.L. Smith book has caused me to become an instant fan of her work. I have now gone back and one-clicked everything I can get my hands on by this exceptionally talented author. Dark/ twisty/ mind-blowing drama and then you throw in a love story that two very broken people attempt to navigate in the midst of all the chaos makes this one heck of an epic 5 star read.

Rose Miller was the girl that Liam Black loved at sixteen but she disappeared and took away all the color in Liam's life with her. Liam was already a broken and damaged soul but when Rose vanishes it becomes even worse. Now it is ten years later and Black (the name Liam goes by now) finds a strung out, broken and bleeding Rose in an alley, she is obviously not the same girl who once was his saving grace. Black rescues Rose from the alley and nurses her back to health but once Rose recognizes this as the boy from her youth he sends her away thinking it is what is best for her. Questions abound? Secrets everywhere - furthermore it has so many ups/ downs and twists/ turns that keep you glued to the pages just to see where the author takes you next. Can not wait for the second half of one of the best books I have read this year :)
