Words like unnatural and impure started the whispers.
From the very beginning, Ivy Blackwood was different. She was only a child when she was accused of setting the fire, one she passively watched engulf the small house she had called home. Her fingertips burned and her hair singed. Some who watched her crossed themselves, convinced she was soulless for she showed no emotion at all. Calm and dispassionate, even when the screaming started that quickly turned to bellows of agony before dying into nothing but the roaring of the fire.
She was locked away where she couldn’t bring harm to herself or others. To all involved, they had protected the world from a monster, but sometimes things are not what they seem.

Amie's 3.5-4 star review
Disclaimer - I don't even think I paid attention to what the book was about - I signed on strictly for the author's work. Having said that I fell behind on reading and then was stuck in a bit of a reading rut. I began this and it took awhile to get into because it has been years since I have read PNR. Once I was into it I became busy and so it took way longer to read than ever !! I am saying 3.5-4 stars because although I did enjoy the story I feel there was much more potential with a few pieces of it. Things I wanted more of fell flat and even though I enjoy multiple POVs I think maybe the book should have been divided up or spread out somewhat different for more effect ?? Anyhow - I will continue on with series because I am curious and a big fan of the author.
Ivy's story is a sad one. No family to speak of , locked away , not knowing who she is or what she did and leaving her life in the hands of a doctor she is suppose to trust that may be the most evil piece of her story. As the story takes place Ivy is free of the place she has been held for years BUT trying to figure out who she is and how she fits into the current issues in New Orleans is a painful experience for her. The story of Ivy and Bain was amazing I just wish we had more of that. It was amazing to see all the different types of people come together for one cause. It was crazy to follow but really a great story line to indulge in.
