Once I’m home, I start unbuttoning my shirt and ripping my belt off. I can’t stand being in these clothes any longer than necessary. I don’t see or hear Viola anywhere, although her car is parked in the driveway, so I pull my shirt off and pull my pants down before tossing them on the arm of the couch.

I walk to the kitchen and pull open the fridge to look for a beer. Once I find one, I twist off the cap and slam the door shut again. Just as I take a swig, a girl walks in, who is not Viola and stops frozen in her tracks.

“Who are you?” I ask, fully aware I’m down to my boxers. Her eyes glass over before finally blinking and looking back up to my eyes. “Did you hear me?”

She swallows. “Yes, sorry. You just scared the shit out of me. Viola said her brother wasn’t home.”

“I’m not her brother.” I take another swig, roaming my eyes down her petite little body. “I’m the roommate, Travis.” I say, taking a step toward her. “You must be a friend of Viola’s?”

Before she can answer, I hear Viola stomping toward us. “Don’t touch him, Ash. You’ll catch an STD.”

Her eyes widen, and I’m pretty sure I see her friend take a tiny step back.

“I’m surprised you even know what an STD is, considering you’re a virgin and all.” I flash a wink at her when her friend isn’t looking.

She huffs. “I’m not a vir—gah, never mind. Fuck off, Travis. And put some damn clothes on.”

“I don’t think your friend minds.” I turn and smile at her. “Do you?”

“Uh...I…” she stammers, and a part of me feels bad I’ve put her in the middle.

“Didn’t think so.” I grin, walking past her toward Viola. “Looks like you’re in the minority, princess.”

I sit on the couch and click on the TV. I hear Viola speaking to her friend as they finish bringing in all of her shit. I glance back and see bags lining the floor.

“You realize you’re only staying here for a couple weeks, right?” I shout. “No need to nerd up the place with all your Harry Potter books and capes. Wouldn’t impress my guests.”

“You’re an idiot,” she snaps. “And since when did you consider your one-night stands ‘guests’?”

I turn fully, facing her. Her cheeks are flushed, and I know it’s killing her that she has to be here alone with me. “You want to see how well I treat my guests?” I flash a crooked smile, knowing it’ll rile her right up.

“I wouldn’t let my worst enemy near you,” she fires back, narrowing her eyes at me. Fuck, she’s hot when she gets super pissed. All the more to push her buttons.

I tsk. “If you could keep them away that is…”

I turn back around just as she tells her friend it’s time to go. She whispers a few curse words, and I know this is going to be a lot more fun than I expected.

“No, Rylie. I didn’t.”
I pushed away from him, my mouth coating itself in preparation for what was to come, and ran toward the field behind his parents’ house. I threw up everything in my stomach, but I kept heaving with wracking sobs, unable to keep my shit together. If I’d listened….if I’d answered his letters…if I hadn’t met Nick…
His hands were in my hair, pulling it back, but it was no use. I was a mess in every way possible.
“This isn’t…” I hiccupped, “how I imagined this going.”
“Yeah?” he said softly. “How’d you imagine it?”
“We would have it out, and then we’d have angry sex, and then we’d fall in love and have babies and live happily ever after.”
See? Honesty.
“Oh Rylie,” he said with humor in his voice, not at all bothered when he wiped the edges of my disgusting mouth with his hand. “I’ll be pissing you off again…probably on purpose just so we can have that angry sex you just mentioned.”

AMIE'S 3.5-4 STAR REVIEW

So I am a little torn with this story -

I was hooked by the cover , title and synop , I love second chance romance , love childhood friends to lovers even more , then to make it even better there was a time gap of no contact that makes the reunion so much sweeter !!

I liked how we got a bit about Riley and Nick - it was a tragedy , heartbreaking story and the emotion was flowing. You could feel Riley's despair and yet wanted her to move on and go back to her childhood so she could start over. I didn't really feel a huge connection to her BUT I could appreciate her due to the things she had gone through. Now when it comes to Quentin I was thrilled. He was all the things in an adult you want your childhood love to grow up into - or maybe not LOL !! I enjoyed the bits and pieces of their childhood , he was very interesting as was his family life so I really wanted to get to know him. There were a few different twists and story lines mixed in and that is kind of where I lost things. I couldn't focus on the present or on figuring out Quentin's past due to this conflict going on with Billy. I think Billy needs his own book because he really has a story to tell !! Maybe a hint or two about his struggles but not a big focus on them as there was. Sometimes I am a bit more ADD than normal so having this book be really busy was a distraction. I enjoyed the story and just think that maybe some things could have been left out and other things should have had more focus. Regardless it was full of emotion and a good read - if Billy ever gets his own book I would def read it !!

Book four in the Off-Campus series is all about Texas native John Tucker. The saying goes "It's always the quiet one's you have to watch out for" and Elle Kennedy outdid herself with this guy. Where as the other three books had hockey as a big part of the storyline it was not so much the case here and it didn't bother me at all. This story is a complete stand-alone that runs parallel to Dean & Allie's story with very minimal overlap.

Sabrina James is a character we have met a couple times in the series. A sassy yet very beautiful brunette that gives new meaning to the word driven. As a senior at Briar she is top of her class hoping for admission into Harvard law and with near perfect scores on the LSAT that life long dream is certainly within reach. Sabrina lives in a less than desirable neighborhood in Boston with her grandmother and step-dad but chooses the lengthy commute to Briar knowing the elite school can fast track her dreams to Cambridge. Sabrina is working two jobs now and saving up all the money she can so her first year of law school can be stress free. Too bad life had other plans for her in the form of a tall, tattooed hockey player.

John Tucker - Tuck is the auburn hair "quiet" one that up until this point has been the head cook and main housekeeper in the house he shares with his best friends / team mates. Where the other guys have no problems putting on a display for everyone to see Tuck has been discreet. By no means is he mild or meek this man is insanely hot but he stands by the fact his mother raised a southern gentleman. Tuck has no plans for professional hockey he is only at Briar for the free education that they gave him and plans on moving back to Texas to put his degree to use. You know what they say about plans though...

John Tucker is hands down my most favorite. I absolutely loved the southern gentleman charm mixed together with the dirty-talking alpha! I hope Fitzy is up next because the tatted up, brainiac needs a girl to fall for :)

BT Urruela was an infantryman in the US Army from August 2004 until February 2011. At the end of a year long tour to Baghdad, Iraq, his vehicle was hit by two roadside bombs, which took his right leg below the knee and the life of his commander. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, an Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He medically retired from the Army in 2011 and moved to Tampa, FL where he currently works as a Director and Brand Ambassador for VETSports, a veteran community sports nonprofit he co-founded in 2012. He also conducts motivational speeches, works as a cover and fitness model and he’s a personal performance trainer.
